    1. Answer= 76 diamonds

      Let total diamonds = M

      Thief 1 ( T1 ) took = M/2 +2

      T2 = M/4 + 1

      T3 = M/8 + 1/2

      T4= M/16 + 1/4

      T5= 1
      Adding them should sum up to M
      Thus the equation: M = M*(15/16) + 19/4 ……thus M = 76

      T1, T2 , T3, T4, T5 are 40, 20, 10, 5 , 1 respectively
